The Preschool Room
3 – 5 years
The Preschool Program lets three-to-five-year-olds lead the way, working on long-term projects they choose over uninterrupted blocks of time. Teachers act as facilitators — observing, joining in, and meeting daily to reflect on what each child is ready to try next.
The room
Preschoolers head outside first thing most mornings — they're out in our natural playground until about 10:30 — then move between hands-on classroom materials sized for them and regular time in the art studio with our full-time Atelierista.
How we learn
- Long-term, child-directed projects, built on the Project Approach and Reggio Emilia philosophy.
- At least 1.5 hours outdoors every day, starting first thing most mornings.
- Process art in our dedicated art studio (the Atelier), led by a full-time Atelierista, using mostly recycled and repurposed materials.
- Teachers meet daily to reflect on each child's interests and plan what comes next.
